How to choose the right one
Check Laptop Size
Match the bag to your device. The Acer Predator Robust fits 18-inch gaming laptops, which is larger than most standard models. The Travelpro Crew Executive Choice 3 Large and the XDDesign Bobby Bizz both accommodate 15.6-inch screens. The Troubadour Apex 3.0 is designed for 17-inch laptops. If you carry a smaller device, a standard sleeve works fine. If you have a large rig, ensure the compartment dimensions actually fit your hardware to avoid damage or poor fit.
Compare Carry Weight
Lighter bags reduce strain during travel. The Peak Design Travel Backpack 45L weighs only 2.05 pounds, making it one of the lightest options here. The XDDesign Bobby Hero is also very light at 2.2 pounds. The Travelpro Slim version weighs 2.2 pounds as well. Heavier bags, like the EVERKI Atlas Wheeled 2, weigh 6.7 pounds. You should carry this weight yourself if you do not use the wheels. Lighter shells are better for backpacking or long walks.
Look at Capacity
Capacity determines how much gear you can pack. The Backvac offers 60 liters, which is the highest volume on this list. The Peak Design 45L and the NOMATIC 20L Expandable provide flexible storage. The NOMATIC expands from 20 liters to 30 liters. Smaller bags like the XDDesign Bobby Bizz offer only 10 liters. Choose a higher capacity for multi-day trips. Select a lower capacity for daily commuting or short business trips where you carry only essentials.
Decide on Wheels
Wheels help if you are walking on hard surfaces. The EVERKI Atlas Wheeled 2 is the only rolling backpack in this group. It has a telescoping handle and wheels for easy transport. All other options are standard backpacks you wear on your back. If you prefer to carry weight on your shoulders, avoid the wheeled option. If you want to roll heavy loads, the EVERKI is your only choice here. It also offers RFID safety features for your documents.
Consider Expandability
Expandable bags offer flexibility for varying trip lengths. The NOMATIC 20L expands to 30 liters when you need more room. The Backvac 60L is also expandable for compression or extra space. The Peak Design Travel Backpack 45L allows you to adjust its volume. The Acer Predator Robust is expandable for larger gear. If you need a fixed size for carry-on compliance, a non-expandable bag might be simpler. Expandability adds weight and complexity but offers significant packing versatility.
