The DELSEY Chatelet Air 2.0 24/28 Set leads because it combines a durable hardside shell with spinner wheels for smooth mobility. This guide helps you decide which set matches your packing volume and charging needs.
Choose hardside for durability or softside for flexibility
Most options here are hardside, offering rigid protection and spinner wheels. The Travelpro Platinum Elite is a softside alternative with magnetic spinner performance and expandable capacity. If you prioritize lightweight mobility and flexible packing, the softside model suits you. For maximum protection against impact, stick with the polycarbonate or ABS hardside shells found in the other picks. Both types include USB ports for charging on the go.

How to Choose the Right Luggage Set
Check the shell material
Most options here feature hardside shells, which provide rigid protection for your belongings. The Travelpro Platinum Elite offers a softside alternative if you prefer flexible packing. Hardside models like the DELSEY sets use durable polycarbonate to withstand rough handling. Softside designs allow for slight expansion when you pack more items. Choose the shell type that matches your need for either maximum protection or adaptable storage space during your travels.
Verify wheel configuration
Spinner wheels allow the luggage to roll upright in any direction, making navigation through crowded airports easier. The DELSEY Chatelet Air 2.0 and Merax sets all include spinner wheels for smooth mobility. The Travelpro Platinum Elite also features spinner wheels, noted for their magnetic performance. Ensure the model you select has this feature if you plan to carry heavy loads. Spinner wheels reduce strain on your wrist compared to traditional two-wheel designs.
Assess piece count needs
Sets range from two to five pieces, depending on your travel volume. The DELSEY Chatelet Air 2.0 is a two-piece set, while the Merax 5-Piece sets include additional bags like day bags and toiletry bags. A three-piece set, such as the DELSEY Cruise 3.0, typically covers carry-on and checked baggage needs. Select a piece count that matches your typical trip length. More pieces offer organized storage but add weight and bulk to your packing system.
Evaluate expansion capacity
Expansion features allow you to increase packing space when you return with souvenirs. The DELSEY Chatelet Air 2.0 and Cruise 3.0 sets both include expandable compartments. The Merax 3-Piece Hardside Set also offers this flexibility. Check the expanded dimensions before buying, as they may exceed airline carry-on limits. This feature is useful for travelers who need extra room for specific items or return gifts without purchasing a separate bag.
Review security features
TSA locks are standard across most models in this list, ensuring your belongings remain secure during travel. The DELSEY and Merax sets all include integrated TSA locks. These locks allow security agents to inspect your luggage without damaging the zipper or shell. Verify that the lock mechanism is accessible and easy to reset. Secure locking systems provide peace of mind, especially when checking bags on international flights or leaving luggage in hotel rooms.
